Welcome to DCTE Design Studio

Hello, and welcome to my site. My name is Paul Peterson, and I have been an artist all my life. Art has always played a major role in all my careers and hobbies. I work primarily in Graphite (Pencil), Pencil Crayon, Pastel, and Charcoal to create highly detailed artwork for my clients. I have recently began working in painted pastels and inks as well. Loggers in Graphite

Logging along the Ottawa River was the bread and butter of many pioneers to the Ottawa Valley. The work was hard, trials were many, but these men, and some women, were rugged and persistant. These ones were the reason we have such a rich heritage along the Ottawa. Depicted here is a scene of such trial and determination to get the payload down to the mill. This work, which took about 1000 hours of intense blending and shading, captures this feeling was completed in graphite and touches of charcoal. Please visit the link below...

Goshawk in Pastel

I prefer to work in high definition, creating highly detailed renditions. Pastels however, created an issue for me, due to their softness compared to a pencil lead. Therefore I wanted to try pastel pencils to create colorful, yet detailed artwork. Here I am working on my goshawk, a smaller, more compact version of its uncle, the hawk. Goshawks smaller stature allows it to zip in and around dense forest growth for its prey. I also loved the coloring of this particular goshawk, as well as its piercing eye. Pet Portraits

Pets are naturally extended parts of the family. I specialize in creating lifelong memories of pets, both past and present, for the people who love them. Its wonderful to see the joy that my portraits bring to the owners of the many dogs, cats and horses that I have created. Original hand drawn or painted portraits capture that extra special something that a photo tends to miss.
